The Two Fortalezas...

Fortaleza is only one or two hours behind New York and Atlanta, (depending on whether or not daylight savings time is in effect). While folks in New York are awakening to rain, sleet, snow, heat, or those rare perfect days, every day in Fortaleza is pretty much picture perfect. With an average temperature of 83 degrees F, all year round, and not a lot of rain, (A light rain in Fortaleza causes much the same effect as does a snowstorm in Montgomery, Alabama) a vacation spot can't get much better. With the coming of the sun, those intent on jogging or catching some waves on the beach don't waste a single moment.
          Soon, thousands of businesses open their doors in town, and an hour later, the shopping centers follow. However, the metropolitan goings on don't detract from Fortaleza's centuries old cadence,the very special heartbeat of northeast Brazil. This contrast alone makes your visit to Fortaleza worthwhile. Just a couple of miles from city center with its ultra modern sculptures and towering skyscrapers, down at Mucuripe harbor, you can watch the lonely Jangadas (fishing sailboats) leaving for the day and hear the old tales of big fish caught, and bigger ones that got away.
          As you travel around the city, turn on your radio and listen to the hot beat of Pagode and Forro, uniquely Brazilian, and enjoy the happy sounds as you make your way from one place to the other.
         Fortalezans by nature are warm spirited, and if you have a chance, stop by Praça do Ferreira, downtown to chat with the old men who come to spin yarns and tsk tsk at the changing face of city life. Fortaleza's greatest attractions keep a hold on the past. Fortaleza is a very special mixture of the past, present, and future, and you can find it all downtown.           Fortaleza has several beaches in town. The favorite for city swimming is Future Beach. It's quite different from the beaches you are used to.
          All beaches in our tour area gently slope into the ocean, and Future Beach is no different. Most beaches have beach huts, made from carnauba wood, and thatched carnauba palm frond roofs. They are full service restaurants where you can get a good meal and a wide assortment of beverages. In front, they have chairs and lounges which are shaded by canopies of carnauba or plastic. It's a free service. Lay around in kingly splendor sipping from an icy cold green coconut or a frosty glass of caprihinia or beer.

When evening comes, Fortaleza reveals a different, and more exciting side. With the setting sun, it is happy hour city-wide. Two of the best places to see the setting sun are The Ponte Metalica, a pier made of metal, or Mount Santa Terezinha.
          Later, you can eat an early supper and go to bed. Just kidding. No, you won’t want to miss a minute of party time when the sun goes down. Fortaleza is so serious about their guests..and themselves..having a great time in the evenings that they have developed a special party schedule known to one and all.
          The week opens with the favorite night spot, the Pirate Bar located on
Iracema Beach. Dozens of restaurants are also located here and you have but to ask our favorites if you decide to deviate from your tour plan.
          Tuesdays will find the pop spot on the opposite side of town at the Boate Oasis, or if you are in the mood for romance at Barraca Subindo ao Ceu on Future Beach.
          Wednesdays brings you an opportunity to visit the hottest Forro house in town, the Clube do Vaqueiro. Part of the trick and lure to the exclusively northeastern Brazilian Forro music is that the beat of the music synchronizes to the beat of your heart. Honest! It's  like an acoustic heart pacemaker. It also affects the breathing and feet muscles too. Of course, there are always one or two people in the crowd that prefer something else, and if that's the case, we have lots more to choose from. At any one time you'll generally have music hitting you on at least three sides. There's even live music in the mall for the guys while the wives are shopping! (Be sure to visit our Music Page. The real thing is MUCH better!)          
          Thursday evenings will find you back down at Future Beach as the barracas or beach huts crank out the entertainment, shows, and events to lure you to an evening of excitement.
          Fridays will find you listening to the music and sampling the pleasures offered at the Barraca Biruta or the Itaparika at Future Beach (And it is a great night for Iracema Beach bars too!)
          The weekends offer literally hundreds of Pagodes, Forros, and entertainment galore at the beaches and dining rooms of the city. Your only problem is in the choosing. As a member of our tours, you can be assured that we will have an entertainment program lined up for you that will rival any in the whole world.
          We will make sure you have just the right entertainment opportunities during the day, and in the evenings. We can't say just which you will have now, because it changes nightly. It is a hard job, deciding between all the entertainment options, but someone has to do it, and we like it...a lot!
